First Thoughts and Initial Research

In the lesson, I had been introduced three themes: Spiders From Mars, Renaissance and Oceanic. After I look at those themes I had pick Spiders From Mars, even though I am interested in Renaissance the olden days royalty outfit, specially the unique cutting for example the tight fitted top waist with a oversize skirt style and highly detailed colourful pattern, but I think Spiders From Mars will be a more interested theme to choose, because space is a mystery area that human had not fully discovered so that it give me more fantasy and allowed me to be more creative and think outside the box when I creating my fashion collection.

When I first looked at the theme, Spiders From Mars, it reminded me of the famous iconic movie Star Wars. I wanted to look into different alien characters, outfits, the unique shapes of the spaceships, constellations and black holes for inspiration. I also wanted to design outfits that looks not affected by gravity and feels like it is floating mid air. However, this will be really difficult, I will have to research more into the construction and material of my design.

Audre Courreges was one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century. His designs are futuristic and had a sleek and simple style, he used a lot of white and silver color schemes and often used high-shine PVC to create garments with a stiff silhouette. He is also heavily inspired from the 60’s space age, some of the outfits even included goggles and helmets taken from the equipment worn by astronauts. I really like this space age fashion style and would love to create garments in this style.
