Miniskirt making Mock Up
Planning and measurement
In the miniskirt-making mock-up plan, I measured the mannequin's waistline of (27 inches) and the hip line of (36.5 inches) therefore the width of the miniskirt was the following equation:1 + 1/2 = 40.5 inches and the length was 14.5. I needed to leave 0.5 x 2 for the hem of the width so that it would come to ( 40.5 + 1 )= 41.5 for the overall width and the length will leave 2 inches for the elastic and 0.5 x2 for the hem so that the overall length will be (14.5 + 2 +0.5 x 2) = 17.5 inches.
Then I ironed it straight to avoid any creases on the calico, next, I folded the edges on all four sides for the hem and ironed it to create marking lines to guide me when I sewed the hem.
Finally, I sewed the gap I left over for the elastic then I flipped the miniskirt inside out and it is complete.
Reflection
Overall I think the miniskirt-making mock-up outcome turned out quite well, it give me an idea of how to measure the mannequin, draw patterns, and how to construct the miniskirt. I think the elastic I bought was too thick so the proportion was not so good and the length of the mini skirt was a little bit too short. Also when I sewed the miniskirt I accidentally turned on the wrong setting on the sewing machine, so the sewing density gap is quite big that it is not looking as neat. I think it lacked durability and felt quite flimsy, I am happy I made the mock-up skirt so I got to practice and make mistakes. It has allowed me to gain confidence and knowledge for when I make my final mini-skirt.
