Elisabetta Franchi

Image
Elisabetta Franchi was born in 1968. She has 4 brothers and sisters and comes from a humble family. Her strong single mother had to overcome financial problems to raise them on her own. The job that she had as a sales girl taught her to pay attention to what customers want and listen to their needs, laying the foundation for her successful fashion business   Elisabetta Franchi’s Spring-Summer 2022 collection is about a woman who loves to travel, a dreamer with an adventurous mind, someone who would explore the world and visit new places. The collection included garments that people would wear on a safari trip, using natural, earthy colour tones and also animal prints.    I had a similar concept with her spring summer 2022 collection based on the theme adventure. Her concept is based on a woman, who has a brave attitude and an interest in traveling, dreaming and exploring, the collection is also inspired by the changes of the environment to help to develop her imagination. Research myself

Image
In the research myself exercise, we have try think of our own history and experience, for example childhood, teenage years, personality and what is your bigger decision that you make in your life, that change your path and make you become you, and also who inspired you in your life, and why are you choosing this subject. I am borne in Hong Kong it is a big and crowd city, in my first memory in my childhood, I had playing with my favourite rabbit doll called Mary, when I am little I always thought Mary is my sister, so that every time I play and travel I will bring Mary together with me. One of my childhood dream job is being a Lego designer, because my biggest hobby is building Lego and create different interesting building, vehicle, spacecraft and in one day, someone wants to buy the space vehicle I had created, he think this is a product that designed by Lego, because of that it encourage me to be a Lego designer in the future. In my teenage years, I had do a biggest decision in my l

tutorial with Jeanette

Image
Today I had a tutorial with Jeanette where we discussed my ideas for my project in Art Portfolio. We discussed my theme, Earthly Delights, and how I have interpreted this to create 6 fashion designs informed by my passion for the outdoors (my hobbies) and also the feeling I get when I go somewhere new... Like I have gone into 'Wonderland'. Jeanette felt that the collaboration of these ideas could be difficult or confusing to convey and so we have put together 3 mood boards which show how this could be interpreted in three different ways... Mood board 1 , the Alice Theme, makes obvious links to Alice in Wonderland fashion in a catwalk style, I think this is too 'obvious' and these collections do not match my idea of this being informed by the 'outdoors', my hobbies. I also don't feel these really link well with my ideas of sustainability. Mood board 2 , the Wild Theme, shows some links to my passion for hobbies in the outdoors, and how this can be connected

Yinka Shonibare

Image
Yinka Shonibare was born in London in 1962, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria at the age of three. He returned to England to study his bachelor and Master’s degree in Fine Art. However, he was diagnosed with an illness that resulted in a physical disability where one side of his body is paralyzed just weeks after his class began.   Shonibare’s work varied, he uses a lot of different approaches in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional. He works with photography, painting, installation, sculpture and film. His work links his childhood in Nigeria and his experience of living in England, he also uses race, class, historical and social events as his theme in his art piece. Cheeky Little Astronomer I am particularly inspired by his indoor sculptures and installations, which often feature life size mannequins that are combined with multi cultural elements. The cheeky Little Astronomer is one of my favorites. The sculpture was placed facing the window, observing the environment with its telescope. The

Greg ‘CRAOLA’ Simkins Artist Research

Image
kitron Greg ‘CRAOLA’ Simkins Greg ‘CRAOLA’ Simkins is another artist that I wanted to research on. Simkins began drawing at three and was inspired by cartoons, animals and books, he continued to progress and started doing graffiti, it taught him perspective, colour theory and further developed his skills which later changed into his acrylic work. He also worked on video games including Tony Hawk 2X and Spiderman 2, his experience with pop culture, nature and his imagination makes Greg Simkins a sought-after surrealist painter today.  One of my favorite paintings is “Kitron”. The artist is very skillful and painted the texture and prints of the porcelain cat vividly. The shiny blue and white on the cat also creates great contrast with the ash brown background, creating an apocalypse mood for the painting. The creatures also look like they are from another world, with fish that flies and a goose that is totally out of proportion. I think the porcelain cat is combined from five diff

Nicky Zimmermann Artist Research

Look 16  FALL 2019 READY-TO-WEAR LOOK 16 Look 8 FALL 2019 READY-TO-WEAR LOOK 8 Nicky Zimmermann Artist Research:   Nicky Zimmermann is another artist that I researched to gain some inspiration on the silhouette and style. Zimmermann mixed toughness with femininity in her 2019 FW ready to wear collection. She was greatly inspired by a WWII female resistance fighter, and used a lot of military touches in her garments, including utility pockets, belted waists and jodhpurs to represent the theme. I particularly like the silhouette and design of the jetfighter-like one piece flight suit on look 16. Zimmermann uses a variety of fabrics and design elements to create contrast between the femininity and toughness, for example the leopard print, the bell-sleeved blouse and the different belts. Look 8 is another design that I like. I love how the designer uses different pleats to manipulate the fabric and create a distorted look on the floral fabrics. These designs really inspire me on how

Marine Serre Artist Research and Fabric research

Look 36 HARD DRIVE FW22 LOOK 36 Look 38  HARD DRIVE FW22 LOOK 38 Marine Serre Artist Research:   I am looking at the Paris based sustainable fashion brand Marine Serre’s work to look for inspiration for my final collection. Her process starts with researching in second hand stores, if the garment is interesting, she will recycle the material to fit in the collection. Marine Serre also works with new material such as biodegradable yarns and recycled fibers, around 50% of her collections are made from upcycled products.   Apart from the sustainability of the material, I also like the prints and design of her garments in the 2022 FW collection. She uses a mix of brown, khaki, green and white colours to create an earth tone as her main colour scheme. She also uses a variety of prints in her design, including fabrics with camouflage and map prints.      Marine Serre’s approach to fashion design gives me some ideas on the material and print that I can use in my final collection.  Susta

SMART Project

The theme that I chose for this project is Earthly Delight. In my opinion, exploring the unknown is one of the things that delight me the most, I love caving, tracking, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and mountaineering. I wanted to use exploration and Alice in wonderland for my inspiration and develop six fashion illustrations for the final outcome. The project will take six weeks to complete and I will be using mix medium to create these drawings. The target customer for this collection will be celebrities who attend different high class events and the garments that I design will mainly be Haute Couture. I will also be researching different recyclable materials so that the final garment can be more sustainable to the environment. The colour scheme of this project will be using a dreamy palette, including khaki, purple, blue, red and pink. I will be creating a Spring fashion collection for women on the theme of Alice in Wonderland this will incorporate pocket change and asymmetrical trend

lecture Michelangelo

Image
In today’s lecture, we learned about Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio’s life and his work. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was a drunk who was often in problems with the law. Fortunately, he was a brilliant painter. He is well-known for painting powerful, dramatic lighting settings.   Michelangelo Meridian da Caravaggio was born in 1571 in Milan, Meridian. He and his family moved to a little town called Caravaggio in Northern Italian when he was little, that is the reason why people called him Caravaggio. Before Caravaggio went to Rome, he was trained as a painter in Milan. However there were already many artists at that period of time, making Caravaggio’s life very difficult. He was unnoticed and had no reputation, he didn't have enough money to hire a model, and could only sell his still life and self portrait painting in themarket to make a living.   Caravaggio, Basket of Fruit, c.1596-1601 The Basket of Fruit is one of the paintings that interests me. This painting is very r
